Average Sales Calculations
These are the calculations for the average sales information show on the Tank Readings screen in Inventory.
There are 4 average sales calculations that are similar but do vary slightly:
- Avg Sales - average sales for the current day (shown by default)
- Avg Week - average sales for the week (7 day average)
- Avg Weekday - average sales for weekdays
- Avg Weekend - average sales for the weekend
We calculate each tank’s average sales using the last 6-8 weeks of data. To make the estimate more accurate, we remove the highest and lowest values before calculating the average.
This helps eliminate unusual events like:
- Seasonal Events
- Weather impacts
- Temporary outages
- Promotional spikes
By removing those outliers, the system uses the six most typical weeks of activity to estimate normal demand. This produces a more stable and reliable consumption rate, which improves delivery forecasting.
