IP Polling - Testing and Troubleshooting

Configuring IP polling at remote sites can be complicated to configure and is often unreliable in particular for dealer sites where connectivity is outside of your control.
With our IP polling technology, we can connect to remote Automated Tank Gauges (ATGs) via the internet once the ATG has been configured and the firewall has been opened and properly secured.
To test and troubleshoot IP-connected ATGs, you will need to first install Telnet on your PC.  Once completed, you can verify connectivity by opening a command prompt and using telnet.

Open a command prompt by typing CMD in the search bar

Type TELNET IP ADDRESS PORT NUMBER and then press enter

Replace IP_ADDRESS with the IP address

Replace PORT NUMBER with the port number configured on the ATG (Defaults to 10001)

If you see a blank screen, this means you were able to connect to the ATG

Press CTRL A and then 200. If you get a valid response back then we know the IP address and port number are correct

To disconnect from the ATG, press CTRL ] (right bracket) and then Q

If you see a message like "Could not open connection to the host, on port ...", then the connection failed due to an invalid IP address, port, firewall, or another connectivity issue. You will likely need a technician to help troubleshoot further.

Please note, due to the security implications of using IP polling over the Internet as well as reliability and configuration issues, we recommend using a cellular tank monitoring service to connect to your ATG. This provides a much more secure and reliable connection to your Automated Tank Gauges (ATGs). We do offer affordable and easy-to-install cellular tank monitoring solutions for our customers as well as many 3rd party integrations.

Please note that IP Polling is a paid add-on that can be activated in your account. Please contact support@petrodatasync.com for more information.
